Next Door Pizza and Bar is brought to you by two longtime entrepreneurs and veterans of the Greater New Haven food industry: Douglas Coffin and Robin Bodak. The two of them met years ago working together at Big Green Truck Pizza in the garage that adjoins our building and houses the BGTP fleet, hence the name, NEXT DOOR.
This is a project that has been long in the making. For years, as we've traveled all over the state catering parties, customers have asked when they'd be able to get a slice of our pizza that didn't come on wheels. We admired this space, which housed the historic Humphrey's Bar and Grill for years, and saw an opportunity to bring back some of that neighborly feeling, drawing on our own diverse New Haven experiences. The idea for a Big Green Truck pizzeria has evolved into something much more, reflected in the name: Next Door reflects the closeness & familiarity we all want in a neighborhood establishment. Robin Bodak is the owner of Coco Tamale Catering and head chef at Big Green Truck. She previously ran the kitchen at Judies Bakery. She has developed a number of creative small plates and twists on classic snacks for this restaurant and has also lent her signature style to much of the interior design. Doug is the owner of Big Green Truck Pizza and Douglas Coffin Inc. Catering. He is excited to have a new project that (hopefully) won't need a tow truck!
